Georgia native, Rhett Akins, found his way to a professional music career when Decca Records heard one of his demos. He was signed to Decca in 1994 and proceeded to release two albums. In 1995, the critically acclaimed 'A Thousand Memories' was released and produced four chart singles, including his first #1 hit, "That Ain't My Truck," which he also co-wrote and has since become Rhett's signature song. The following year he released 'Somebody New,' which had another chart topping single, "Don't Get Me Started." Overall, Rhett has had an extremely impressive career.
He has not only been a successful solo artist but has also written more than 36 #1 songs for country's biggest names. Some of these hits include Luke Bryan's "I Don't Want This Night To End," Dustin Lynch's "Small Town Boy," Jon Pardi's "Dirt On My Boots," and Blake Shelton's "All About Tonight," "Boys Round Here," and "Honey Bee" which spent 4 weeks atop the country charts.
One of Rhett's most notable accomplishments has been the opportunity to share #1 songs with his son, Thomas Rhett. Together, the Akins' have co-written TR's hit's "It Goes Like This," which spent three weeks at #1, “Get Me Some of That,” “Star of the Show,” “Life Changes,” “Look What God Gave Her,” “Half Of Me” and “What’s Your Country Song.”
Rhett has been honored with a multitude of awards in the music community, including being named BMI Songwriter of the Year in 2011 and 2014. Though Rhett has a proven track record of awe-inspiring success, his biggest accomplishment to date may be winning the CMA Triple Play Award a total of eight times. The CMA Triple Play Award is presented to songwriters who pen three #1 songs in a twelve-month period. Rhett won this distinguished award first in 2010 and again in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2023. In September 2019, Rhett Akins was named the first Songwriter of the Decade by the Academy of Country Music. In 2021, Rhett was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall Of Fame.
